Seasonal Variations in Worm Burdens

Parasite eggs and larvae will not develop on pastures where winters are cold or where summers are very hot and dry. Therefore, increases in worm burdens of pastured swine mostly occur in warm, moist months. Parasite loads decrease in winter as adult worms die without being replaced.
